Do you know what air consists of?

You would think we know better than ask this question. Why the answer is simple, you say – “It is made up of 78% Nitrogen, 20% Oxygen, and the rest, an amalgamation of gases in minute quantities. Any child could have told you that.” Right?

Wrong. Try including dust, dander, oil, organic chemicals, asbestos and many other chemicals whose names might as well figure in the tongue twisters hall of fame. Household air is choc-a-bloc with air pollutants, drastically affecting quality of air that you breathe.

Air quality is seriously affected by a large amount of particulate and gaseous matter that is found abundantly in unpurified air. Contributing to the accumulation of these pollutants is inadequate ventilation which allows dilution of indoor air. These pollutants also increase in concentration due to an increase in temperature and humidity.

Combustion sources such as oil, wood and tobacco products, building materials, asbestos insulation, household furniture, cleaning solvents, deodorizers, paints and dyes, craft products, humidification and cooling devices, vehicular exhaust from a garage – all release harmful products that contribute to hampering air quality. And the important point to note is that these chemicals and irritants are released continuously in some cases.

Air quality & health: What happens when one compromises on air quality and inhales these omnipresent air pollutants? The effects are profound and can be immediate or long-term. According to the EPA, even a single exposure can trigger irritation of eyes, nose, throat, Cause headaches, nausea, dizziness and fatigue. In some cases, a single exposure can lead to Asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

Long term effects are not limited to respiratory diseases alone. It has been observed that air quality is directly linked to cardiac disease and cancer – both fatal in some cases.

Improving air quality: An increased ventilation and use of air purification devices leads to a marked increase in air quality and therefore the quality of living.

However, one must make sure that the amounts of outdoor air entering a home is neither too great (a “leaky” home) nor too little.

Air filtration devices or Air purifiers are handy, portable and efficient devices that are guaranteed to purify the air you breathe. HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters ensure a minimum of 99.97% of pollutant removal. Not only do they filter particulate matter such as dust, dander and pollens, they also efficiently exclude organic compounds and gaseous matter.

We have a range of air filtration products from Amaircare, which are quiet, portable, energy efficient and are designed for rooms of all sizes. They are extremely affordable and come with a 5 year limited warranty
